Some days you have the capacity to run the fastest mile you’ve ever run or move the heaviest weight you ever have. Other days, your maximum effort may fall short of those PRs. This is to be expected. Our bodies are not built to sustain maximum output every single day. If we were to exert ourselves to 100% capacity every single day, we would not see improvement, would be physically and mental exhausted day after day, and would be at a much higher risk for injury.
Giving 100% every day does not mean hitting a PR every time you are at the gym. 100% effort does not necessarily mirror ability or skill. Giving 100% means giving all of what your body and mind have to offer that day. If 100% for you feels like getting into the gym and scaling more than usual or moving at a slower pace, but you get there and you do it, you gave your 100% for that day. Giving 100% in the long run is much more about consistency and commitment than it is to performance. Make a commitment to yourself to be 100% dedicated to your long-term goals and notice how that changes your behavior and your mindset over time.
