In the CrossFit space we talk a lot about “mindset.” We talk about how mindset impacts our workout that day, our ability to get to the gym, and our lives outside of the CrossFit gym, but what exactly does this term mean and how can developing and mastering our own mindset benefit us?
Simply put, Merriam-Webster defines mindset as a set of attitudes or inclinations. This definition is expanded upon by Carol Dweck, Ph.D, a Stanford psychologist, who introduces the idea of the “growth mindset.” Having a growth mindset essentially means you believe that you have the power to change and develop your qualities and abilities, whereas someone with a fixed mindset believes they are the way they are and that’s all there is to it. If you can get to a place of growth mindset, you can and will make progress in all areas of your life because at your core, you believe that change is possible.
Let the growth mindset in and put in the work. Progress will follow.
