Many of us have heard this before from “Fitness in 100 words.” Typically when we think about food in relation to fitness/health, we’re thinking about weight and muscle gain/loss, i.e. the physical stuff. We are doing ourselves a disservice if we aren’t also considering the mental health benefits that come with a healthy diet. Fortunately for us, the foods that best serve our physical fitness goals are also the ones that promote mental wellness. This article talks about the relationship between gut and brain health and how the foods we eat impact our brain functioning. The article also has tips to help guide us toward more nutritionally beneficial eating habits. As with most things, consistency is key here. If we make a change, we need to stick to it and check in with ourselves regularly about how we are feeling- physically and mentally.
